Updates on the house!

This is the picture of the new bathroom, obviously still in progress!!
These are of Adrian's room... lots of things on the walls now so the blue is not as dark looking as it was when we first finished the painting of it! Can you tell the things he like to collect? Ya, me either!

This is Ashley's room, I love this color (one of her shirts matches the color perfectly!) She is into white tigers, the one above shows what she got for Christmas last year from "Santa" The comforter on her bed was also given to her at Christmas from either Kevin or myself, I can't remember anymore but it is double sided, she doesn't use the other side ever that I have seen, it has roses on it. She says it is way warm for the winter nights so that is good!

The picture above is of mine and Kevins room, not in any way impressive, what can I say, I am not a good decorator!!! Below is just of the middle hallway, just pay no attention to the mess at the bottom in the room, it has not been organized in a while, this picture is a kick in the butt for me to get into gear and get it up to par.

Tese two pictures are of the family room some of you might recognise it as being the room in between the top floor and the main living level of the house, again I am not an interior designer so it has no flavor to it, the blanket is to block to sun from coming in, I need to get curtains or blinds since they would be much more fashionable!!!

These are of the laundry room, the sun was horrible and I didn't feel like hanging a blanket or waiting for the sun to go down to take the picture so this is the best you get for the time being. It looks better if you look at it in person so everyone will just have to plan a trip just to see the rooms in all there glory!!!

Above is an angled shot of the bathroom, not to much to look at at the angle that I shot it at but it is clean so that is a big plus!!! Below is a picture of the pantry, it is hard to tell but the color of the doors (all but one) is a light blue and each door has a light shining on it ao when the door gets opened the items inside can actualy be seen without a flashlight!!! The one door that is not blue is the door that has all the cleaning supplies in it, still debating if I want to go ahead and paint it or leave it as is. What does anyone think??

The last two pictures here are of the dinningroom and the kitchen. I like the table, we got it back at the end of march already the chairs are sratched deep and scuffed. I guess nothing stays nice when kids are around no matter the age (I can be included in that along with all the other adults in the house) We are in the process of doing the ceiling and the floors, we have a habit of starting a project and then get distracted and begin another so we have alot of unfinished things to be done. The floors will be carpeted by Christmas as Kevin and I have decided that our gifts to each other this year is to have the floors done. That is the best gift ever!!!
If anyone has feedback on things I look forwrd to hearing it, again I am not creative and no matter how many house shows I watch on TLC, I still have nothing that jumps out at me to do. It is clean even though it doesn't look it because of all the missing parts (floor and ceiling)

I thought I left a message but I'm not seeing it so let's try this again!

I love the colors of the kids rooms, it's looking good! I also love the laundry room and the track lighting in the pantry is awesome. I would LOVE to have a pantry like that! I would go ahead and paint the other door just for continuity.

The carpet is really going to look great; you'll have to re-post pictures once you get it in!

Finishing the ceilings would be great, too. I think it would look great with recessed lighting.

Other than that I would paint the family room/kitchen. A sage green would be pretty! And I'd paint the cabinets all a nice bright white and put on brushed nickel hardware. That would look so fresh and new! Good luck and keep us posted!

Wow! You guys have done so much already. I'm very impressed. I really like Alison's suggestions with painting the other door, finishing the ceilings and floor, and painting the sage green and white in the dining room. I don't have any decorating skills either, but I have found that just fresh paint can do wonders for a room. Good luck. Keep the pictures coming.

P.S. Does Adrian wear all of those hats??? That is quite a collection!

I like Alison's ideas, too, of the color to paint the family room/kitchen, and with all the cabinets painted white, it will be really impressive. As you say, the new carpet, tile for the floors and new ceilings will definitely go a long way to making everything look nice, and as Amy says, a new paint job always makes everything look better. You've done a great job so far and it definitely is clean and organized, so you get gold stars for all your hard work!!

It is looking a lot better! I think my only suggestion would be not to put carpet in the Dining/Kitchen area. As I'm sure you know that is the highest traffic area of the house. That combined with the potential for food to get on it, the carpet will be worn and looking bad in no time. I think carpet is good for bedrooms and low traffic areas. For in there I would suggest Pergo. It may cost a little more to put in, but is way more cost effective in the long run. It is very durable and will out last carpet by at least 3 times as long, saving you money in the long run.

Well, as long as we are discussing flooring:

I think the most important thing is continuity. If rooms flow together you want to do pretty much the same thing throughout. If it was ME flooring the house, I would do the same ceramic tile all through the pantry, kitchen and dining area, hall, bathroom and laundry room. Then carpet bedrooms and living room. That is the "cheap" option. With unlimited funds, I'd totally open up the living room area and do hard wood throughout the entire downstairs, every single room. I'd start carpet on the stairs and continue them up through the bedrooms. With a whole-house remodel I would do a lot with opening the house up to contribute to a better layout and flow with all the living areas, and bring in as much LIGHT as I possibly could with windows and skylights (where possible) and with recessed lighting. This is just a personal opinion...I LOVE light, bright living areas and I really hate dark during the daytime. I seriously open every blind/shade in my house and leave my lights on all day. I just remember Grandma's house as being really closed in with all those separate rooms and doors and as being dark. I would change that as much as I could. If I ever get out there I'll have to walk through the house with you and tell you all the things I've imagined doing with it! (I mentally remodel/decorate about every house that I ever go into...I can't help it).
